CHIMES OF LIGHT

A piece we are truly proud of. Originally made for the auction at the 2017 Denniz Pop Awards, this is our interpretation of a great music producer, Dag Krister Volle, better known as Denniz Pop, that was talented, inspiring, warm and just brilliant. We want this piece to share the same qualities and honour his legacy. 30 pieces of hand turned walnut pendulums, all adjustable in height, dimmable and with a warm glow.

SIT

SIT is all about contrasts, and a play of them. Primarily in the sensation of the materials, but also the way a massive and compact construction appear to float just above the floor. This seating furniture was originally developed for an entryway in a private villa, thus symbolizing a transition from outside to inside, from cold to warmth (if you live in Scandinavia that is). Manufactured in matte-finished steel complemented by a handcrafted walnut top. Elegant, eye-catching, and an exceptional piece of craftsmanship.

“The desire to experiment, challenge and convey unexpected perspectives is central.” The client talked about literature and their book store, we had architecture on our minds, but we wholeheartedly agreed. This bookshelf has seen a few change-overs from the original one made for a vibrant book store on a medieval back street in historic Stockholm but we have never let go of the mix of materials and perspectives. Made of travertine, walnut, and MDF.

HIGH HEEL

The original version of this table we made for ourselves and it is still the office centrepiece. A dining table with a raw concrete top and a base in walnut veneer. We´ve put this table through many tough tests (hence the name) but it just keeps aging gracefully. Available in two different sizes.

We immediately fell in love when we stumbled upon this black glittering relief glass. Originally made in the seventies we found it tucked away in a warehouse in Latvia. We were out hunting material for a table and when we turned the sheet of glass upside down we realized we had the top. Glass top with a concrete bottom.

RASTER

Sometimes we come across materials that we immediately want to use, even if we don’t know where or how. Just as often we find materials that both complement and elevate the purpose and the desired feeling. In this case, the task was ceiling light fixtures for an exclusive gym with low ceiling height. When we first held this glass in our hands, we immediately saw how this delicate brass mesh would work wonders for a warm and atmospheric light. The ceiling light RASTER can be mounted hanging or directly against the ceiling or a wall. The fixture base is made of corten steel, and several individual fixtures can be combined to form a larger unit.

NOTKATE BIRCH

NOTKATE is a collaboration with a Stockholm boutique hotel packed with rock ´n´ roll attitude. A sideboard where we gently balance elegance with playfulness. Together with the hotel manager we immediately decided on the materials, then we let the shape and form grew, literally. Our rather humble and slender original sketches developed into something far more bold and strong-minded. The end result is a sideboard with enough confidence to fill a room by itself, yet with the grace to team up alongside any other furniture.

TO LOOK

“Can you divide this office without making it look small?” asked the lawyer. Of course, we said. With inspiration from traditional dressing table mirrors, we designed TO LOOK, which, with its substantial size and double mirrored sides, fits just as well in the middle of a room as along a wall.

B1

A coffee table we designed for a farmhouse in the countryside outside Stockholm. The entire color range and all the materials are a reflection of nature with a distinct reference to the Scandinavian winter. Cold pale tones, off-white, gray and light green in contrast to a black oak base with influence from Japan.

LAZY GUY

The client synopsis: Imagine coming back to the hotel after a long day out and about, you are leaning back on one of the deep lounge sofas, feet on the table, sipping on a drink… Problem, where do you put the glass? We made LAZY GUY, asymmetrically designed to slide over your sofa and always be in reach for that late afternoon dry martini. This guy comes in three different finishes, black stained solid birch, oiled solid american walnut and powder coated birch.

MATERIALS BY NUDE

We strongly believe that the objects we surround us with tell stories, and as a maker of exclusive and bespoke furniture we like to think that we are just that, story tellers. All our pieces have a history, a specific setting and its own context. Yet often we discover that the end result is bigger than the project.

Everything available at Materials by Nude has its origin in Nude ateljé, our Stockholm based creative atelier working in architecture, furniture and interior design.

Nude ateljé specialize in tailor-made projects and objects.

We work traditionally with wood, stone, glass and concrete and every piece is handcrafted by our dedicated carpentry team in
Riga, Latvia, to the highest standards.

Piece by piece, room by room, this is what we mean when we say that architecture and interior design is all about curiosity in materials, shapes, forms and in people. Under the name Materials by Nude you will find the objects and stories we think worth remembering and sharing.
